Elon Musk’s xAI is turning up the heat in the AI race with the launch of Grok 4, its most advanced model yet — and it’s not coming alone. In a bold move, xAI has also introduced SuperGrok Heavy, a new $300/month premium plan packed with early access to cutting-edge AI capabilities.

Described by Musk as “better than PhD level in every subject, no exceptions,” Grok 4 is positioned as a serious rival to OpenAI’s upcoming GPT-5 and Google’s Gemini. The model boasts strong image analysis, sharp academic reasoning, and performance that rivals top-tier models on rigorous benchmarks like Humanity’s Last Exam and the ARC-AGI-2 test.

But that’s not all — xAI also dropped Grok 4 Heavy, a “multi-agent” version that operates like a collaborative study group, using multiple AI agents to analyze and refine answers for even sharper results. According to the company, Grok 4 Heavy smashed benchmark scores, outperforming leading models with and without tools.

The $300 SuperGrok Heavy plan gives power users exclusive early access to Grok 4 Heavy and a pipeline of upcoming tools, including an AI coding assistant in August, a multi-modal agent in September, and a video generation model in October. It’s the priciest AI subscription on the market, but xAI says it’s geared toward those who want “front-row seats” to the future of AI.

Developers can also now tap into Grok 4 via API, as xAI opens the door to app integrations and enterprise use. Still, xAI faces challenges, with recent controversy surrounding Grok’s social media conduct raising questions about its maturity as a business-ready solution.

Musk remains optimistic. “It hasn’t invented new physics — yet,” he quipped during Wednesday’s livestream. With Grok 4, xAI is betting big that businesses and creators alike will want in on what’s next.
