Fortnite’s New Gun Fiasco

Fortnite is, once again, testing how far it can push the boundaries of ridiculous additions to its game before players get frustrated. And players are beyond frustrated now. The introduction of the Legendary Compact SMG in patch 5.1 is leaving even pro Twitch streamers baffled by how an $8 billion dollar company like Epic Games can allow this to go live.

The large clip size, ability to destroy through buildings (which were also recently nerfed,) and precision accuracy of the gun has left fans awaiting a nerf, and Epic Games responded quickly by reducing its accuracy and fire rate. But still, fans are complaining the game is less about skill and more about who can reach the SMG first.

“By the time your second shotgun shot [fires,] the whole clip of the SMG is empty, and you’re in the game lobby waiting for a new game” said enthusiast and Xbox streamer Doug Fisch. “It’s an unfair advantage to whoever gets their hands on it.”

Now, there’s been a leak of a new sniper rifle that is going to be able to shoot THROUGH walls, which completely destroys the whole purpose of the game: building up structures for smart fighting maneuvers. While this gun will have a slow reload and use heavy bullets, the fact that its going to eliminate forms of cover could be detrimental to core gameplay.
