Will Instagram Be The Next Pinterest?

Instagram, whether it acknowledges it or not, got the inspiration (if not outright copied) for Stories from Snapchat. And now, the media-sharing platform seems to be eyeing another platform’s special feature – namely Pinterest’s ability to share favorite collections of pins with pretty much everyone else on the app.

According to Jane Manchun Wong, who gave the tip to TechCrunch, there’s code buried in the Android version of Instagram that possibly points to the ability to create a feature called “Collections,” where other Instagram users can contribute.

At the moment, Instagram does have a similar feature. If you click on the upper right side of a photo on Instagram, there’s an option to save it to your personal collection for easy access later. The only difference though is that it’s not shareable with other people. With the new feature, users could be given the ability to create an album of sorts, created by saving interesting photos that other people can see as well.

It’s unclear whether or not the feature will be rolled out soon, or if it does really exist. If it’s too similar to Pinterest, however, Instagram could give the company a run for its money, just as it’s heading towards a $12 billion IPO.
