When Space Talks Back To You

Thanks to AmazeLabs, UnCached has put together a playlist of some strange sounds that have come from outer space.

Most recently, a Canadian radio telescope known as CHIME has picked up mysterious signals, known as FRBs (fast radio bursts) that last for only milliseconds. While no scientists know exactly what causes them, they were first discovered a decade ago and astronomers have been trying to decipher their existence ever since. What we do know so far is that they come from beyond our galaxy, and could POTENTIALLY indicate extra terrestrial life. Potentially. Or it could be exploding black holes, or neutron stars, or something completely different.

CHIME, the telescope to pick this particular FRB up, stands for the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment. This was the first time a telescope of this caliber picked up an FRB below 700 MHz. In addition to CHIME, there are other telescopes picking up these frequencies. Above, watch as Saturn communicates with its moon Enceladus, the “music” of our galaxy, and what the sun would sound like if we could actually hear it. Apparently, it’s pretty loud.
