Vespa Goes Electric

The classic Vespa model is going fully electric in September for a whole new generation. The iconic scooter has been on the market since the company debuted in 1946, especially in the home country of Italy where the company was founded. The newest model, entitled the Vespa Elettrica, will begin production in September and be available to Italian markets starting November 2018 and then hit the U.S. market sometime in 2019.

Piaggio has decided to take the classic Vespa and give it the ultimate, 21st century makeover. After the first line of Elettricas go out, the company plans on making newer features, such as allowing the Vespa to recognize its user without the need for keys, alert and maneuver around crashes and incidents, and suggest alternate routes just like a GPS would.

While Americans don’t ride Vespas everywhere they go, they have still be an item of interest for a lot of luxury citizens. With the move to go fully electric in full swing thanks to Tesla’s prominence on the field, I wouldn’t be surprised if more motorized vehicles go fully electronic by the year 2020.
