Why Google Is More Than A Search Engine

For 15 years Google Search has been surprising us with the quality of the search results obtained and have therefore become one of the first websites people visit when connecting to the Internet and looking for some information. Without much effort and too many clicks, the service that started in Mountain View is regarded by most users as the perfect solution to find answers to questions on the web. Fortunately, although Google has become a versatile company, they constantly came up with upgrades to their search engine. Furthermore, they have also brought it to a brand new level. Nowadays Google can be used for performing calculations, conversions and for various other tasks. Find out more in the following lines.

1. Compute

You can use Google to calculate almost anything. Simply enter a question in the search box and you will get the answer in less than a second. You can even include numbers such as pi or other mathematical constants. This feature can also be used on mobile devices, so that everyone has access to it, no matter where they are.

2. Conversions

Internet users interact daily with various metric values. For some countries the most common units are meters, grams or degrees Celsius, while others use feet and inches, pounds or Fahrenheit degrees. If you ever want to understand the changes in size, volume or temperature you can use this powerful search engine as well. For this it is enough to insert a question such as “44 degrees F in C” or “33 pounds in g” and the answer will be displayed instantly. Furthermore, you can even combine the conversion algorithm with the one responsible for calculations. A good example is “2 miles + 300 feet in km”, which is a perfect valid statement to use.

3. Currency conversion

Sometimes Internet users want to shop from other countries. In case you ever find yourself in such a situation and want to compute the product and shipping cost in your local currency Google is the perfect starting point. A query like “10 USD to EUR” is just enough to get started, and again you can also use complex calculations such as “3GBP + 60 USD in EUR”. The results are displayed along with a graph representing the evolution of the conversion ratio over the last couple of days.

4. Weather

Weather is also a common question that Internet users want to know the answer to. Simply enter the name of your city followed by the keyword ‘weather’ in Google Search and you will find out the forecast for the following 3 days. However, you should ensure you are typing the name of the city in its official language, because otherwise you may not get the desired response.

5. Sunset and sunrise

If you want to see the sunrise on the beach or the sunset on your living room window Google quickly tells you when to be prepared. Just enter “sunrise” or “sunset” followed by the name of the city you are in, and all the information will be displayed for the place of interest requested.
