Digital Cameras: Things To Look For Before Buying

You’ve always dreamt of owning a digital camera and have saved enough to buy one. You thought buying the camera with the highest megapixels would be  enough. As you browsed the shops you understand that it is nothing but a myth. There are many things that you have to consider when buying the best camera. Here are the things that you must look for before buying a camera.

Fix up the budget

Before you go out looking for a camera and get yourself confused, it is better to fix your budget. This is the first pointer that will help you to narrow your choice and make a better decision.

What is your purpose?

This is another point that you need to clarify beforehand. What do you intend to do with the camera? Do you want to shoot family occasions or some great outdoor shots? If you are serious about your hobby and want to shoot like a pro you need a camera with more manual control.

Features to look for in a camera

Megapixels – don’t make the mistakes others have made before you. Never buy a camera because it has more megapixels. They simply indicate the amount of data captured by the camera and not its quality. There are other features that determine the quality of images a camera produces.

Optical zoom – most digital cameras come with an optical zoom of 3X. This can go up to 10X. The zoom merely extends the image and compromises on the picture detail. Don’t  be fooled to buy a camera with higher zoom unless you require it.

Aperture – the size of the aperture determines the photosensitivity of the camera. Small aperture lends more depth of field to the images. Higher depth of field maintains the balance of focus between the background and foreground. Aperture setting is denoted by f-number. Lower f -number denotes smaller aperture.

Shutter speed – it determines the time for which light falls on the image sensor. Remember that for very fast shutter speed the aperture must be large. While buying your camera, check the balance between these two features.

Flash- to take pictures in low light, you need a flash. It is better to opt for reduction flash which comes as a red eye.

Along with these features look for memory card, compression and warranty available for the model you have selected for yourself. Buying a digital camera for yourself is not difficult. You only need to educate yourself a little and shop around to get the best one that will make taking pictures fun.
