The Apple iMac is Now More Powerful

Apple updated its iMac models on Tuesday, featuring more powerful Intel chipsets and AMD-powered graphics.

Tom Boger, senior director of Mac Product Marketing at Apple, says, “Customers are going to love the huge boost in iMac performance. With up to 8-core processors and powerful Vega graphics, the iMac lineup is stronger than ever. With its stunning Retina display, amazing design, twice the performance, and MacOS Mojave that our customers love, iMac is by far the best desktop in the world.”

On the outside, the older model iMacs remain the same – 21.5 inch and with 4K or ultra HD resolution. On the inside though, the iMacs are now powered with eighth-generation Intel CPUs, configured in either quad-core or six-core. Apple says that this upgrade can deliver up to a 60% boost in performance when compared to the older processors, and an 80% boost in graphical performance thanks to the new graphics cards.

Meanwhile, the new models, which boast 27-inch screens with 5K resolutions, are powered by six-core or eight-core ninth-generation processors. In terms of performance boosts, the ninth generation processors are said to deliver “2.4 times faster performance,” while a 50% graphical performance boost can be expected with the Radeon Pro Vega 48 GPU.

The 21.5 inch is at $1,299 for the i3 version, and $1,499 for i7 version. The 27-inch, on the other hand, starts at $1,799 for the base six-core Intel i5 version, while the six-core ninth-generation version is at $2,299.
