Tesla Interested in Purchasing Defunct Factories

Tesla has had quite a year, and they are looking to have an even better one in 2019. A measure being taken that will help ensure success moving forward? More factories.

Tesla’s Model 3 Sedan has received high praise from analysts and consumers for its simplicity and efficiency. The Model 3 Sedan can be made in roughly 40 steps, which is about a 1/3 of the amount of steps as most other cars in this bracket take to make. This gives Tesla a pretty significant advantage.

The Model 3 Sedan is shaping up to be the electric car of choice in the new future, and only one thing holding Tesla back is production, or lack thereof. Production is about 30% below Tesla’s expectations, and they are seeking to rectify this by purchasing more factories.

Elon Musk himself stated in an interview on 60 Minutes that Tesla would be open to purchasing factories from their competitors that are no longer being used. General Motors in particular is closing up shop at 3 factories here in North America, and Tesla would not mind getting their hands on them. Tesla has already taken over an idle General Motors factory in California.

Buying out these defunct factories will not only improve Tesla’s production rates, but would also put them closer to the heartland of the automotive industry here in America, which has numerous benefits in itself.
