Technology Could Provide Senior Caregiver Solutions

Credit: Make Tech Easier

Because of the busy work schedule of most people, it can be very difficult to find the time to take care of their aging relatives. Technology may be able to help out in this department.

As much as technology may be confusing and frustrating to elderly people, it can serve as a benefit to them. Taking the time to teach them how to use new tech can prove to be a worthwhile task.

In a recent study, it was reported that 70% of seniors are now connected to the Internet. They are able to connect with friends, shop online, make reservations, and make travel plans. The aging population will be able to benefit from wearable devices, “smart” homes, autonomous vehicles, and artificial intelligence.

The National Science and Technology Council addressed some of the concerns over incorporating this kind of technology into the homes of elderly people. Things such as cost, privacy and security, and equity of care have become a concern for everyone involved.

Senior citizens cannot see themselves paying the price that is expected for smartphones, as they don’t see the benefit in it. The screen and keyboard size would need to be adapted, and features like brighter screens, longer battery life, and durable construction would need to be considered.

The fear of security threats is also a major concern for seniors, who worry about their personal and financial security. Seniors also feel that they need to be taught how to use the devices. With younger generations consistently driving the new technology, seniors fear that they will never be able to keep up with all the changes.

However, senior citizens do enjoy technology. It opens up a whole new world to them that can be extremely beneficial. Technology will be vitally important to the well-being of senior citizens moving forward and businesses need to see this opportunity to help them out.
