Spotify To Implement A New ‘Social Listening’ Feature

Spotify is planning to implement a new feature later this year, with the aim to make the Spotify experience more community-like.

The new feature, called ‘Social Listening,’ will allow various people to add multiple songs to a single playlist, regardless of their distance from one another. Social Listening allows users to invite another user over the internet to join in their playlist just by sharing a dedicated URL. The feature also allows friends that are seated right beside each other to bring up a QR-like code on their Spotify app that can be scanned by another Spotify app.

Either method allows different users to work together on a single playlist, a shared queue between the two of them, or more if they wish.

Right now, the feature is still being tested and is only available to company employees. However, Spotify has high hopes that Social Listening will build friendships across the music-streaming platform and allow friends and families to bond together by listening to the same music. In fact, one of the company’s goals for the future is to be able to synchronize music down to the very same second, so that users can hear the exact same notes at the exact same time.
