Sony Teases What’s in Store for PlayStation in 2019

The general consensus since Sony’s announcement that they would not be making an appearance at E3 next year was that it was due to Sony not having many exclusives ready in 2019. Many believed that Sony was focusing all of its attention on the release of the PlayStation 5 in 2020, and that’s why they’d be missing E3 for the first time ever. After all, if the PS5 is coming out in 2 years, there’s not much reason to divert a lot of resources to the PS4 right?

Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide, Shawn Layden, along with Reggie Fils-Aime and Phil Spencer, heads of rivals Nintendo and Xbox respectively, showed up for The Game Awards. Unlike his Nintendo and Xbox counterparts, Layden didn’t have much to talk about, at least regarding Sony’s plans for 2019. This left PlayStation fans disappointed and they took to social media to express those sentiments.

And Shawn Layden took notice. One fan, after expressing his disappointment, received a response from Layden himself stating simply:

“See you next year.”

PS4 does have a few exclusives coming next year that fans are very much looking forward to, notably ‘Ghost of Tsushima,’ ‘Judgement’ , and ‘Days Gone.’ Whether or not Layden is being cheeky about any of the above releases or some yet to be announced Sony exclusives remains to be seen, but fans shouldn’t count Sony out of 2019 yet.
