Saw a UFO? Probably Just Lenticular Clouds

An alien craft would probably be flashier anyway.

Reports of UFO (Unidentified Flying Objects) sightings have been present for decades now. Just recently, scientists discovered something that could possibly explain this strange phenomenon. According to scientists, sightings of UFOs could be attributed to a simple mistake made by people who happened to see what scientists call lenticular clouds.

At first glance, lenticular clouds do look like UFOs. Most of these clouds have the same odd spherical shape as UFOs, and depending on the weather in which they were seen, they can even look solid enough to be touched.

Scientifically-speaking, lenticular clouds are formed when stable moist air happens to flow over mountains, especially an entire mountain range. Once the air starts flowing in this position, large-scale standing waves could form on the mountain’s downwind side. And if the temperature at the very peak of these waves is cold enough, the moisture from the air around it could form lenticular clouds.

Another similarity they have to UFOs is that they can appear and disappear rather quickly. The only reason for this, though, is that sometimes the cloud could easily evaporate back into vapor, especially if the temperature it moves towards is warm enough. Since people from low-lying areas don’t normally see lenticular clouds, some may mistake them for UFOs that suddenly dart out of sight.

So perhaps reports of UFO sightings may just be lenticular cloud sightings, but don’t worry – scientists aren’t done looking for intelligent life out there yet.
