Samsung May Release First Foldable Smartphone This February

Samsung has already confirmed an event for this coming February 20th in San Franciso, wherein it’s expected to reveal its newest flagship model, the Samsung Galaxy S10.

This announcement sparked a lot of interest and curiosity among the South Korean company’s avid audience. Fans and non-fans alike are waiting for the unveiling of the latest series, partly due to the 5G technology that Samsung has been showing off for months now. This will be the first major smartphone launched in history, if ever, to have this capability.

Some fans are also anticipating the unveiling of the first foldable smartphone in the world from a major brand, rumored to be part of the S10 series. This is quite controversial, considering that plenty of start-ups have already beat Samsung to the punch, although it was the first one to develop this kind of technology.

As some of you may remember, it was July of last year when Samsung first announced that they were developing foldable screen technology. But a few months later, in November, California start-up Royole launched the world’s first foldable smartphone, the FlexPai Mobile, beating both Samsung and Huawei. The phone’s preselling price ranged from 8,999 to 12,999 yuan, or roughly $1300 to $1900 in US dollars.

Samsung is planning to launch three different versions of the Galaxy S10, with minor display differences each. According to the Wall Street Journal, The 5G-capable version is expected to launch later on in the spring, while the foldable screen phone may be released as early as April.
