Pokémon Let’s Go Trailer Shows Special Moves

If you’re a Pokémon fan, chances are you could be anywhere from a six year old to a fully grown adult. While that’s been one of the great things about the franchise, Pokémon’s ability to attract a wide array of age groups might be running out. With the newest trailer of “Let’s Go” revealed, the new Switch game that is coming in November, some new features left older fans skeptical of the game’s direction.

Specifically, Pikachu and Eevee, your partner Pokémon depending on which version of the game you get, will now use Special Techniques in lieu of HM’s. While essentially the same thing, only your partner Pokémon can learn them, and they don’t take up a move slot. While this is a welcomed change, the announcement also came with the unveiling of Partner Powers and exclusive moves. By wiggling the joy-con, players can activate special moves from Pikachu or Eevee.

The names of these moves are what drew fans to the conclusion that this game would be geared toward a younger audience. Pikachu can learn “Splishy Splash” as an exclusive move, while Eevee can have “Buzzy Buzz,” “Bouncy Bubble,” or “Sizzly Slide.” It’s not every day that, in a game where you battle your monsters til the point of exhaustion, that you hear gamers call out “Pikachu, use Splishy Splash!”

It’s just not that intimidating… On the plus side, there will be a Nintendo Switch bundle that launches for 400 dollars with brown and yellow joy cons representing Pikachu and Eevee. This limited edition console will be available the same day as the game, November 16th.
