After releasing a suspicious teaser of the next hero to literally roll into the Overwatch universe, Blizzard confirmed today via Twitter the identity of the newest playable character being added to the roster… sort of.
While no name, abilities, details, or any specifics were given, we got a clip of mechanized hamster ball rolling into battle and unsheathing into a destructive robot with two automatic guns, spider legs, and who knows what else under that heavy layer of metal. But, what we did get at the very end of the teaser was the top hatch on the mech opening up, revealing a tiny hamster pilot. Rumored to be the hinted at character “Hammond,” this fur ball emerges from his contraption with a fluffy golden coat of hair, buck teeth, and an adorable smile as he claps excitedly at the mayhem he is about to incur in the game.
If I had to take a guess, I’d say that Hero 28 is most likely going to be a Defense hero. Most of the post-release heroes we have gotten have been Tanks, Supports, or Offense heroes like Orisa, Moira, and Sombra respectively. It’s about time we got a new Defense hero along the likes of Torbjorn or Junkrat, who has a specialistic play style that combines area control, damage, and unique abilities. He certainly doesn’t look like a “run and gun” rat, that’s for sure, but it also wouldn’t be surprising if he was a Tank due to the large structure of his robot making for a easily targetable hit box.
We can’t wait til this rascally rodent to make his (or her?) debut on the testing servers, and eventually, the game, so we can get our paws on his potential power.
