New Pokemon Game Announced: ‘Pokemon Sword & Shield’

It’s been 23 years since the first Pokemon games were released for the original Game Boy, on February 27th, 1996. Since then, February 27th has been known as Pokemon Day. In line with the yesterday’s celebrations, Game Freak and Nintendo revealed some great news for all Pokemon fans around the world: the Japanese game companies are releasing the latest generation of Pokemon games, this time for the Nintendo Switch.

Named Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield, the new games will be taking place in the Galar Region, which includes various areas such as “idyllic countrysides, contemporary cities, thick forests, and craggy, snow-covered mountains.” Fans have already noticed Galar’s notable resemblance to England.

The teaser also included a glimpse of the newest starter Pokemon, which consist of a grass-type monkey named Grookey, a fire-type rabbit named Scorbunny, and a water-typed lizard named Sobble. Other than that, the teaser contained battle scenes and some previews of the new region.

As of writing, no additional news has been released regarding the final launch date, but the new games are expected to drop by late 2019. Interested players can already pre-order the games for $60 each at Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart, and Gamestop, though.
