Microsoft Is Working On A Game Streaming Service

Microsoft announced on their official blog today that they have begun development on a new platform for streaming Xbox One games. This platform, tentatively named Project xCloud, will allow Xbox One games to be streamed not just to Xbox One consoles, but also to PCs and mobile devices.

xCloud will allow for 4G and wi-fi streaming to any compatible device, with mobile devices also receiving customized touch overlays based on the game being streamed. New hardware is also being created for Microsoft’s various data centers containing parts of an Xbox One console and its associated infrastructure to ensure the most authentic experience.

Microsoft has extended offers to developers of over 3,000 games to get their support for this service, with the incentive being to increase their games’ visibility to potential customers. Public trials for xCloud will begin some time in 2019, with a variety of tests being performed by Microsoft to ensure that no matter what platform is being streamed to, it will be high quality with no latency issues.
