Microsoft And Sony May Cut Xbox One And PS4 Prices

Video game, digital media, and electronics analyst Michael Pachter predicts that Sony and Microsoft will be issuing price cuts for their current-gen consoles, the PS4 and Xbox One, in 2019. In an interview with Gamingbolt, Pachter said, “Sony can probably cut the price, Microsoft probably will cut the price.” The industry analyst claims that the consoles can go as low as $199 for the Xbox and $249 for the PS4. Even the rumored handheld-only Nintendo Switch is expected to retail at $199 this year.

This is obviously good news for gamers, who are anticipating the release of more games this 2019. Last year, the top five best-selling video games were FIFA 19, Monster Hunter: World Far Cry 5, God of War, and Spider-Man, all of which are Sony PlayStation 4 games. Closely following the top five are Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey, both Nintendo Switch titles.

According to Newzoo, the gaming industry is estimated to be worth about $137.9 billion in 2018, as opposed to $22 billion 10 years ago in 2008. Console sales actually lessened quite a bit last year, despite the Sony PS4 approaching 100M units sold worldwide, mainly due to the strengthening of mobile games. With the predicted price cuts though, these numbers are expected to go back up in 2019.
