‘Mario Kart Tour’ Beta Starting in May

The only modern Mario Kart more portable than 8 Deluxe.

Early last year, Nintendo announced their new forays into the mobile gaming market, Mario Kart Tour and Dr. Mario World. Nintendo has been dabbling in the field on and off for a little while now, experimenting with smaller experiences like Super Mario Run and larger-scale games like Dragalia Lost, but Mario Kart Tour and Dr. Mario World would be the company’s first major multiplayer mobile products (Pokemon Go notwithstanding since that’s more Niantic’s project).

While Dr. Mario is still out to lunch, we’ve finally gotten some news on Mario Kart Tour, and it’s sizable: there will be an open beta for the game running from May 22 to June 4 in both Japan and the US. Anyone interested can sign up on the game’s official site until May 7, after which the lucky participants will be informed. The beta is only available to Android users, unfortunately, but the full game should be available on iOS as well.

Mario Kart Tour was originally supposed to release in March, but at the start of 2019, Nintendo announced that its release has been pushed back to some time this Summer. Still, considering the beta will be running near the cusp of Summer, that hopefully means we won’t have to wait too long for the real deal. Dr. Mario World is also supposed to release for Android and iOS this Summer, though, as previously stated, details are still scarce.
