Is Pokémon Go Introducing Generation 4 Pokémon?

Pokémon Go is back at its height of popularity thanks to steady updates from Niantic Labs, its developer. Now, I don’t usually like to cover leaks if they aren’t confirmed, but there’s buzz going around that Generation 4 could be making its way into the game sooner than expected: as early as this week!

Just like how Generation 2 and Generation 3 were introduced in waves of Pokémon, we may be getting a wave of Gen 4 Pokémon through what is being dubbed the “evolution event.” Since August’s community day is focused on Eevee, the evolution Pokémon, it wouldn’t be surprising if the whole month of August focused on evolution-themed Pokémon. And what was Gen 4 known for? Introducing a ton of evolution Pokémon.

So what would this potential event look like? Currently, it seems like evolutionary stones, such as the Fire, Water, and Thunder stones, will be new items obtainable from Pokéstops. Additionally, Pokémon like Rhydon, Electabuzz, and Magmar will be able to evolve into their Gen 4 evolutions, Rhyperior, Electivire, and Magmortar respectively. You will need some of the other new evolutionary items for this to occur, but the event will bring with it double experience points from spinning Pokéstops and an increased drop of evolutionary items.

The last addition would be Gen 3 fully-evolved Pokémon like Salamance and Shiftry finally spawning in the wild. Now, note all of this is just speculation from a leak posted on reddit. Some people are doubting it solely based on the fact we just got Lucky Pokémon and the friend/trade system, so there’s really no reason for Niantic to release another huge update consecutively.
