Is Google Stalking You?

So what is the search engine giant up to today? Apparently, tracking your every move. According to multiple services, including Associated Press, even if you have your location history toggled off, the company is still geo-tagging your every move. They know where your home is, where you check in… basically everything even if you think you’re opted out of it.

Google can track users by the minute. Whether its through the search engine itself, or through any Google-branded applications, it knows where you’re visiting and can use this information to ad-target you. But there is hope, as there’s a website that allows you to delete all this data. I’m not sure how “deleted” it actually is, but my activity.google.com can let you clear your history. The ultimate way to get Google to get off your back is to toggle off “Web and App Activity” so it can’t track you through those two features.

This news brings up a great ethical question about tech giants knowing more than they should about us. Ethically, Google was not clear when stating that turning off location tracking did not block them from having access to your every move. The reveal from Google’s AP shocked many users, but the reality is that a lot of apps are probably doing the exact same thing. We live in a world where privacy is a thing of the past when it comes to tech giants.
