Is Fortnite Ruining Marriages?

I once read about a couple who used the game World of Warcraft to propose to each other. Everyone on the server helped pitch in by arranging “Will you marry me?” in huge letters. Stories like these gave me hope that, one day, video games would bring people together in unique and memorable ways.

Apparently, the opposite is true. There are new reports that claim the Battle Royale-shooter by Epic Games, Fortnite, has lead to over 200 divorces in the United Kingdoms. Studies have been conducted to figure out exactly what the impact is of online entertainment on real-world relationships and marriages. Over time, similar cases have arisen.

In 2011, World of Warcraft peaked at its popularity, causing strain on a lot of couples. The same goes for Fortnite now, as its simplistic yet addictive design can have adverse effects on relationships. It’s almost being called the “heroin” of video games, since its been proven to be just as addictive.

As more and more patches come out, is it possible that Fortnite will cause more and more relationships to crumble?
