I wish I had my own developers conference.
Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, held in San Jose, California, is certainly one of the most anticipated tech events of the entire year. Although the main purpose of the event is to showcase Apple’s latest innovations, it’s also an event where developers from all over the world can gather around a thousand of Apple’s own engineers to share ideas and just connect.
Here’s everything that was announced at the WWDC 2019 event.
Arguably the most awaited part of the event was the iOS 13 reveal. The new update to iPhone operating systems is expected to come out later this year, along with the new iPhone line-ups in September.
While Apple iPads originally made use of iOS as their operating system, Apple’s beloved tablet is now getting its very own OS. It still looks very similar to the current iOS, but Apple decided to separate the two operating systems in order to add some iPad-only features to the OS. For example, the new iPad OS will have a tighter grid of icons on the home screen that allows the user to add more items.
Speaking of operating systems, Apple is also updating its TV OS – available only on the Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K. The company will first update the app and then eventually do a major overhaul later this fall. One of the most notable updates is the ability to add multiple users to one account, similar to how Netflix works.
Watch OS 6
Apple’s smartwatch is getting better and better with each iteration. The new Watch OS 6 will also get a couple of new updates, like more customization options and the ability to add apps independently on the iWatch without having a companion app on the iPhone.
Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR
In terms of hardware, Apple didn’t disappoint. The new Mac Pro has an all-metal design that hides a powerful 8, 12, 16, 24, or 28 core processor inside. It can also house up to 1.5TB of ECC DDR4 memory in 12 DIMM slots. Eight PCI expansion slots are available as well as four PCle slot with one I/O slot. The whole thing comes with a 1.4 KW power supply.
