Helping Hands With HoloLens

The number one field in which virtual reality is to make huge profit and impact is the medical industry. It seems as though Microsoft’s HoloLens is the first device that is excelling here, as it is now being used at the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in the United Kingdom. The HoloLens, paired with the Surface Hub, make for an innovative new way for doctors and surgeons to view CT scans, X-Rays, and maps of the human body all in three dimensions.

The most exciting feature will be live, 3-D heart scans. This real time technology will help with identifying potential issues and ensuring maximum health for patients. Currently, the HoloLens will be used primarily in the operating room, but the technology could mean the difference between life and death on critical children surgeries.

Previously, the HoloLens has been used in a bowel surgery, which shows that doctors and operators are already taking advantage of the bright future of VR technologies. While the HoloLens is not available to consumers yet for its high price point, hospitals and the medical industry are expected to invest highly in these technologies by 2025. While the hype of virtual reality has been toyed with in the video game industry, its prominence is most likely going to appear in situations such as these.
