Heart Health Screenings Now Available On Fitbit Via Cardiogram

An ounce of prevention and all that jazz.

Fitness tracker company Fitbit has partnered up with Cardiogram in order to provide a new feature to users: the ability to use data from Fitbit to screen heart conditions with the help of an AI.

Cardiogram’s screening features are different from other platforms, thanks to its special artificial intelligence-based algorithm called DeepHeart. This algorithm can analyze large sets of data that can surface any possible issues that most humans cannot easily see. It purposely searches for any trends and patterns that are commonly found on patients with those underlying issues and matches them to the user.

Testing for the app was done in real clinical settings and based on the results, DeepHeart can accurately detect even severe health conditions like hypertension, diabetes, atrial fibrillation, and sleep apnea.

With the Fitbit partnership, this screening is now made almost automatic. The fitness tracker will send data to Cardiogram which DeepHeart will then analyze. If the user is at risk for any health condition screened by the algorithm, the app will alert the user and give them options on what to do next, such as following up with thorough diagnostic testing in order to confirm the results and treat the condition. Premium Cardiogram users can even export the data immediately to share with medical professionals or care providers.

Cardiogram can be used by any Fitbit device that has a heart monitor. The list includes Fitbit Charge, Versa, Fitbit Ionic, Fitbit Inspire HR, and Fitbit Alta HR. Users can download the free version of Cardiogram on iOS and Google Play. The free app is enough if all you want is screening, while the premium version, which costs $15/mo or $100/year, allows users to export their results.
