Competitive Gaming on Track to Becoming a Billion Dollar Industry

A once niche sub-category of the video game industry is picking up steam: the Esports industry.

Pro gaming has come a long way over the years. Video games from numerous genres have emerged as popular picks on the Esports circuit. From sports titles like ‘FIFA,’ ‘NBA 2K’ and ‘Madden,’ to fighting games like ‘Mortal Kombat’ and ‘Dragonball FighterZ’ and FPS titles like ‘Call of Duty,’ ‘Overwatch,’ and ‘Fortnite,’ there’s something here for everyone.

Speaking of ‘Fortnite,’ it has become the biggest video game phenomenon since ‘Pokemon Go’ back in 2016, and is slowly but surely picking up steam in the Esports scene. ‘Fortnite’ streamer Ninja, who is unarguably the face of the game, became the first gamer to be on the cover of ESPN magazine. Everyone from the US military to rapper Soulja Boy want in on Esports. Parents are hiring tutors to help their kids get better at video games.

Projections predict, that within a few years, Esports will be a billion dollar industry. No longer is video games just a hobby, but a viable avenue for people to do what they love and make thousands or even millions of dollars while doing so.
