China’s Leakiest Building

Imagine building the largest, man-made waterfall in the world, only to have people call local newspapers to complain that there’s a giant leak in the side. Well, that’s what happened in Guiyang, China, when a 397 foot tall skyscraper had a 350 foot long waterfall installed into the side of the building. Watch above as white rapids gracefully cascade down the side of the Liebian Mansion, a hotel that might have some people scared to stay at if that water started flowing in the middle of the night for no reason.

Luckily, there’s a rhyme and reason to when the waterfall is showing. The waters only pour down for a maximum of 20 minutes, as well as only during domestic or international events of importance. The water used is recycled from an underground storage system, but just because its recycled doesn’t mean the Niagara Falls wannabe hasn’t raised environmental controversy.

It takes 118 U.S. dollars to pump the water every hour, and the engineering behind it makes the locals think it’s a complete waste of electricity. While it might be a modern, man-made, innovative marvel, it also seems completely unnecessary at the same time. However, for someone to accomplish the building and installation of the tallest man-made waterfall in the world is a feat we have to give props to here on Uncached.
