Artificial Intelligence Hitting the Bar Scene

I dare you to tell me a cyber-bar wouldn’t be awesome.

What seems to be more a hassle at a bar… fighting your way to the front of the line or being the bartender who has to try to sort everything out? A bar in London is looking to get rid of these problems forever.

An AI bar is in the works and will function by using a webcam to capture people as they arrive. This information will be filtered to the bar staff who will be able to see who is next in line based on the image on their screen. Nobody will have to fight their way through a line anymore to get the bartender’s attention.

A trial run ran in June and more trials are expected to take place in September. The new technology will alert customers to their place in line and the AI will be analyzing their ages to cut down on identification time.

Waiting in lines is a big problem in Britain. It was estimated that people spend about two months of their lifetime waiting in line at a bar. The big curiosity with rolling out this new technology is how people will behave with it. Will customers dispute it or still try to jump in front of the line? More trial runs are needed to really gauge how people will respond.

The cost to pubs in the United Kingdom is about $240 a month. Because of people getting frustrated waiting in lines, many pubs are closing at an alarming rate. The hope is that this tech will solve many of these problems and also provide statistics to the pub owner to alert them when orders are at their highest and lowest so that they can adjust their staffing accordingly.
