Apple Stores to Stock Harry Potter Coding Wand for Holidays

Were you one of the many kids who spent their afternoons running around in the backyard with a stick shouting “Expecto Patronum”? Interested in learning how to code but think traditional online classes are too boring? Thanks to a UK startup, soon you’ll be able to kill two birds with one stone.

A UK computing and coding startup by the name of Kano has released a unique ‘Harry Potter’-inspired coding wand that can be used as a fun and effective tool for anyone to learn how to code. After purchasing a coding wand, you follow the simple instructions on how to build it, and then you take it for a spin. The wand responds to your movements, and by working in tandem with the Kano app, “magic” happens. By using the wand, you’ll be building blocks of code which will respond to your actions in the form of various spells. These include everything from making things bigger, making things float, and even playing musical notes.

Currently, there are dozens of challenges to choose from, and both experts and neophytes of coding alike will be able to have fun with this coding wand. And thanks to Kano’s ever-growing community, Kano World, you can check out the creations of users located all across the world.

Apple approached Kano with a partnership deal, and soon hundreds of Apple Stores in select countries around the world will have Kano coding wands for sale that you’ll be able to demo right inside the store. As of now, interested customers will be able to demo the wands through December and January, but neither Kano nor Apple have confirmed if customers will be able to demo them after that.

The Kano coding wand will be retailing for $100 and is not only a fun toy for kids to play with, but an educational one as well. Computer science is a blooming field so if you can get your kids interested in coding when they’re young, and they get to have fun while they are at it, everyone wins.
