Apple Implements iPhone Voice Control

You don’t even need hands to work a phone anymore; what a time to be alive.

Apple has implemented a new voice control feature that will make the device more accessible to those with disabilities that make using a smartphone difficult.

Voice control allows those with certain disabilities to control their own phone without all the unnecessary button presses and impediments that come with their condition. An inspirational tearjerker from the tech giant showed biking enthusiast and quadriplegic Ian Mackay using his Apple devices to communicate with his friend effortlessly through the use of this new feature.

The actual settings for this new feature, Accessibility, is now reordered as a top-level domain in Apple’s Settings hierarchy. It can now be accessed directly from Settings, General & Accessibility, a few button presses less than before.

Steven Aquino, a disabled writer from TechCrunch, says, “As a disabled person myself, this is not insignificant. This change reinforces Apple’s position as the leader in the industry when it comes to making accessibility a first-class citizen.”

“By elevating it to the top level, Apple is sending the message that accessibility is a critical aspect of the operating system, and a critical part of the user experience for so many, myself included,” Aquino says.
