Apple Bans Facebook Employees From Accessing Internal Apps On Their iPhones

‘Chaos’ breaks out at Facebook’s headquarters in Silicon Valley as thousands of employees realized that they could no longer access the company’s internal applications using their iPhones.

Apple’s move was reportedly in response to Facebook’s alleged misuse of Apple’s enterprise-app program. According to reports, Facebook used the app to gather data and research on people’s phone activity in exchange for $20, which is against Apple’s policies.

Facebook said that it was shutting down the app, but Apple refuted this, saying that they had to revoke the social media platform’s enterprise certifications after learning about the alleged misuse and violation of policies.

This caused Facebook employees to be unable to use internal applications on their iPhones using the company’s network. The apps included company apps for transportation of food, as well as beta versions of Messenger and Instagram, both of which are Facebook’s own apps. Due to this, some employees claimed that they felt like they were being “unfairly targeted” by the tech giant.

Apple says the enterprise app is supposed to be strictly used only within the company, TechCrunch reports. Facebook not only broke this rule, but also told their research participants to ‘sideload’ the Facebook Research app, which means running an application outside the Apple App Store – another violation of Apple’s policies.
