Apple AirPower May Release in Q2 2019

My, Apple’s been a busy bee, haven’t they?

Apple’s newest technology innovation, the AirPower, may be making its way to consumers sooner than they think, according to well-known industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from TF International Securities.

The Apple AirPower is a wireless charging mat that allows wireless charging for multiple devices at the same time. It was first unveiled back in 2017, during the launch of iPhone 8 and iPhone X. Weirdly enough, Apple then became secretive about the AirPower, going as far as to remove almost all mentions of the charging mat from the company’s official website.

However, a few leaks seem to suggest that the mat is actually still in production – Apple’s promotional photos for the recently launched AirPods 2 seem to show a charging mat in the background, which looks very close to the AirPower.

What could be the reason for the delay? For one, the charging mat requires some complicated technology for it to work. It’s supposed to charge multiple devices wirelessly at the same time, including various models of iPhones, the Apple Watch, and even the AirPods in their charging case. This means that the charging pad should be able to not only detect which device is located in which area of the mat but also provide different amounts of power depending on the device. For another, Apple uses different wireless systems for the Apple Watch and the iPhone, so that’s another problem that this charging mat has to solve for it to work correctly.

Regardless, many are still optimistic about the AirPower. All we can do for now though is to wait and hope that the AirPower will see the light of day (hopefully sooner rather than later).
